*Ok, well strictly not completely free as you will require paper and pencil and also have to devote the time and effort to doing it yourself!

That’s right, go grab yourself these awesome free PDF books on art, illustration and painting and learn some great stuff! The drawing instructional books by Andrew Loomis (a great American illustrator 1892–1959) are now out of print and available to distribute due to their public domain status.

If you have any interest in the art of drawing, painting, illustrating, even design, then these really are great books to go through, learn and tell others about.

Littul Monsta heads out

Heres a little animation made at the same time as the ‘Monsta’ font I previously posted about. This was one of my first ever animations made while learning Flash.

Littul Monsta heads out on his first adventure…who knows one day he might head out again if I find some time. Gotta love those diy sound FX, haha!

(For some reason had a nightmare trying to get Flash 8 to export anything other than .swf file and unfortunately I don’t have a swf converter, so apologies for the ad branding in the corner from the freebie converter)

Thought I’d post up this fun little design project I completed recently. An open brief to do a birthday party invite! Armed with the knowledge of knowing he loves his fly fishing I had the idea of doing some fishing line based typography, which of course naturally required including an intoxicated looking trout into the design! Being a masterful woodworking craftsmen I knew he’d appreciate a hand finished look so this really helped define the graphic style I was going for.

Really enjoyed putting this one together from a sketch and doodle, through to inking up, scanning, colouring in the marvel that is Photoshop, and finally printing, chopping up and delivery.

Wavesailng nationals new zealand

Another T design! This was an extra Limited Edition T design done for the New Zealand Wavesailing Nationals 2009 event. Featuring  fiendish sea monsterish waves attackin the helpless competitor as he battles the sometimes extreme Taranaki windsurfing waves!

OK well the conditions didn’t quite live up to expectations unfortunately with only a few small waves around and not much wind…but at least everyone was stoked with their exclusive T!

Here is my entry to the “peace is…” competition going on over at Social designer. I went with something that focuses on the fun side of things and that the idea of peace is a simple one within everyones reach. And of course the easy to remember message that Peace is truly AWESOME! Plunket Tee’s are go!

Happy to announce the release of a new charity tshirt design I did for Plunket in conjunction with The H Initiative . Plunket does lots of great work supporting infants, kids and young families so it was great to give something back! It was really fun illustrating this one, can’t wait to see it on running around and covered in dirt :)

There’s a couple release writeups at Scoop and Fashion New Zealand with a bit more info and even some NZ celebs getting in behind the cause that was featured in New Idea magazine last week!

The Tshirts have just been released for sale in a variety of colours, you can check out New Zealand stockists here for baby and kids sizes.
