Semi Permanent book 2010 (2nd edition) is in my happy hands! Super, super stoked that my ‘Monster Tour’ illustration was selected to be in there :) Was very exciting to be flicking through the beautiful (hard back!) book  and seeing it looking out in all it’s grumpy monster glory.

As always the semi-permanent book is filled to the bindings with superb works from all around the world, a feast for the eyes and mind. Head on over to the Design is Kinky shop to get hold of past issues and look out for the release of the 2010 book 2 above when they do a reprint (they ran out at the semi-perm nz event!)

Stoked to find out the new board graphics I did for Carbon Art boards got featured in the latest Windsurf (UK) magazine! If you missed it I did a post before showing the new 2010 illustrations and designs I created which you can check out here.

If you’re wondering why it says ‘Recycled Carbon Art’ it’s due to the use of a great new fibre in the boards called Innegra – it’s made using a green factory process.

Apparently the new waveboards also got a show off in the latest Boards mag too…just trying to track down a copy here in NZ so I can have a look!

I was stoked to be asked to design the Tshirt again this year for the New Zealand Wavesailing windsurf Nationals. This was the final result, featuring a fairly realistic illustration of the kind of conditions we usually get around here for the event. The style follows on from last years design and was of course the main highlight of the event for most competitors…well apart from maybe the winners . ;)

art installation for splore festival

Here’s a few images showing some of the process behind the creation of the Cubes I made for the recent Splore festival 2010 (see previous post). The brief and concept was all about creating something for festival goers to enjoy, interact, have fun and tie in with the theme of Midsummer Nights Dream 2050. An added essential was that it had to be able to survive 3 days with 7,000 people…

The concept I came up with was to build sixteen 40cm squared cubes with letters on several sides, patterns on another and one side that when fitted together correctly, formed a complete image.

Just had to share the latest interview up over at Grain Edit at the moment. The site itself is one of my regular haunts, it features a lot of really great work from super amazing illustrators & designers around the world with a 50’s-70’s slant.

So this week they have posted up an interview with S. Britt, an illustrator that (may or may not?) resides in Pickleton USA. His work has that classic style,  but he definately stamps his own uniqueness to it all and wields his skills in a masterful manner. Personally I found the interview entertaining, enlightening and above all his responses where a refreshing change to the usual 1+1=2 interviews you normally read…head on over and check it out, make sure you have  few minutes to sit back and enjoy and be sure to stick around for the guaranteed succesfull recipe to  creative process!

Check out the interview here!

More of S.Britt’s work on his website.

And be sure to keep enjoying the ever enjoyable Grain Edit site!
