Exhibition / Percy Thomson Gallery

Wow time has flown! Suddenly it is time already for my joint exhibition at the Percy Thomson Gallery. I will be exhibiting a selection of all new and limited edition prints. A mix of photography and graphical styles are merged to the theme of “current”.

These will be featured alongside a spacial installation by Nicola Healy and 3D animation by Katie O’Donnell. It also coincides with the opening of an exhibition by printmaker Anthony Davies with a 10 year retrospective of his works. The little I have seen of his work it is quite an exciting style of printmaking and I believe it will be well worth a look.

Opening night for all exhibits is Saturday 21st Feb 7:30pm at the Percy Thomson Gallery Stratford, Taranaki, New Zealand. Come along to view the new works and have a chat! The exhibition runs until the 10th March, 10:30-3 weekends and 10-4 weekdays. All my prints will be available for purchase.

Hope to see you there!

graduate exhibition

Found some time to get a few pictures up of my exhibition space. All came together in the end, just in the nick of time…one last watering of the lawn and the doors opened for the exhibition. We had a great turn out with a few hundred visitors coming to check out everyones works on show. It seemed my free postcards prints and badges were pretty popular, with the badges dissapearing extrememly quickly!

Saw a few people having fun with the letter blocks (particularly the kids) so looking forward to getting the disposable cameras developed to see some of the results to the question ‘Design is’ . Keep checking back to see if you can spot yours!

Badgeriffic

The first batch of Spore* badges (or buttons for some of you) are hot off the press. Featuring a variety of designs this first lot are up for grabs for absolutely free! All you have to do to score yourself one is come along to the 3 Scoops Exhibition . First in first served I’m afraid so they may not last if you get there late…they will be available for purchase soon in the Spore* store so don’t despair if you miss out. The other good news is you’ll definately be able to pick up the other freebie I’m giving away – nice big box arrived fresh from the printers last week so plenty for everyone that turns up.

Graduate Exhibition Invite

Continuing the graduates ’3 scoops’ ice cream theme from the previously posted poster, this is the invite I designed for the exibition invites. Bookmark sized they feature a classic scoop and the logo design as seen on the poster. Any guesses as to the style of the graduates info booklet? Theres a bit of hint with the invite design…currently at the printers!

If your in the area be sure to drop in for a look around, there will be some Spore* freebies available (first in, first served!) and an ale or wine on offer. The exibition opening is on the 14th November – 6.30pm at the WITT campus, New Plymouth, New Zealand. If you can’t make the opening night you can still view for the following week.

Taranaki Wave Classic 2008 / tshirt

Here is the Tshirt design for this years TWC competition. All entrants got one for free when registering so if your keen on getting one…well might have to wait till next years design and come join the comp! Actually there may be a couple extras so drop me an email if your interested in grabbing one of the last few left.

These were printed with a combination of standard screenprint ink for the black and discharge ink process for the blue and white. Gives the print a nice subtle contrast between the colours texture and keeps that nice soft feel in the larger print areas.

Taranaki Wave Classic 2008 / trophy

What a weekend! The windsurfing event of the year in New Zealand, the Taranaki Wave Classic (TWC) is at an end. With some extremely high winds and some mast high waves there was some very challenging conditions for the competitors. Some impressive sailing was definately on show!

Congratulations to all involved and of course to the winners of the event. Keep an eye on Carbon Art and DeepFried for a news article and full results.

I was particularly pleased this year as I was asked to design the winners trophies and also the Tshirt. As one of the event judges I can safely say these trophies were well earned by the winners.  I hope everyone enjoys the designs, check out the trophies below. (Tshirt pics up soon!)

A book

Just completed a little personal design project I’ve been doing. The book uses a selection of my photographs combined with poems from New Zealand poetry. Each poem and photo was chosen to best complement each other, with the typography uniquely set for each piece in an effort to further enhance the feel.

The binding was done with french fold technique (so pages are folded on the outisde edge) and held together with the great simple Japanese binding method. A tutorial for this can be found here!

A few of the layouts and the cover….

Graduate Exhibition 2008

Well it is rapidly approaching… Only a few more weeks till November 14th and final exhibition day!

I was asked to create the theme and design work for the graduates event, and below is what I came up with. The example shown is one of the limited edition screen printed versions of the poster design (sans-sponsor logos). The 3 scoops ‘ice cream’ theme is carried through all the print material and even had the graduates taking part in an ice cream battle for the exhibition book (will post up some casualties photos soon!).

Many thanks to all the students that got the printing done – they look great!

wavesailing new zealand nationals tshirt design 2008

Here is the Tshirt design I did for the New Zealand Wavesailing Nationals 2008. A rare item indeed with only 30 tshirts printed for competing sailors (and the shore crew!). No amount of begging, pleading or bribery will get you one of these I’m afraid! The competition was run over the Easter weekend with some awesome waves and not quite as great wind. Visit Carbon Art news section for a full rundown of the event.
