Happy to say the New Zealand based web host I used is doing a bit towards going green.
Open Host has become part of the United Nations Environment Program and partnered with MokuGift for this project.
The Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign is a worldwide tree planting initiative facilitated by the United Nations Environment Programme. Mokugift enables consumers and organizations to plant trees with a simple click of a mouse for $1/tree. Plant one for yourself or a friend

“The Navigators” wonderful aerial display by Fuse Circus taken at the Splore festival 2010. Just one of the awesome sites and sounds of the festival!

Wow it’s almost time! I’ve been working away like mad the last while preparing my art installation for the great event that is Splore 2010. Was really excited to be one of the artists selected to create an install for this combined music and arts 3 day long festival extravaganza. And it’s got a pretty cool name too..
What have I come up with? Well soon all will be revealed… what I can tell you is that it’s an interactive piece(s), it let’s the viewer create the end result and it took a whole lot longer to create than anticipated! (hidden sneak peak was posted on Friday fav photo 2) Can’t wait to see how it goes, of course check back and I’ll get some photos up of people at play. Or if you’re there and take a pic then please do post it up.
There’s a great music line up this year at Splore with Basement Jaxx, Jamie Lidell and awesome NZ acts like Pitch Black and Tahuna Breaks and a whole lot more.
Check out the official site for the full list of artists both audio and visual: Splore.net (cool site by Salted Herring by the way). And if you’re interested about it’s beginnings there’s an interview with Splore Director Amanda Wright and some more about the art trail over at the Big Idea.
(A huge thank you to James & Lars for their assistance on this project, not sure how I would have done it otherwise with my broken ankle!)

Just had to share the latest interview up over at Grain Edit at the moment. The site itself is one of my regular haunts, it features a lot of really great work from super amazing illustrators & designers around the world with a 50’s-70’s slant.
So this week they have posted up an interview with S. Britt, an illustrator that (may or may not?) resides in Pickleton USA. His work has that classic style, but he definately stamps his own uniqueness to it all and wields his skills in a masterful manner. Personally I found the interview entertaining, enlightening and above all his responses where a refreshing change to the usual 1+1=2 interviews you normally read…head on over and check it out, make sure you have few minutes to sit back and enjoy and be sure to stick around for the guaranteed succesfull recipe to creative process!
Check out the interview here!
More of S.Britt’s work on his website.
And be sure to keep enjoying the ever enjoyable Grain Edit site!

Still fairly house bound with the broken ankle but enjoyed a lovely picnic with the family at Brooklands Zoo in New Plymouth this week. Managed to capture this shot of a Zebra before it ran off again with some kids on it’s back
The second shot is my hand after a day of grafting today. Working away on a project for the Splore music/arts festival. The project is in the background…more will be posted sooon…

So this is the beginning of a new little project named…”Favourite Photo Friday” .
The idea is I’ll be posting a favourite photograph that I’ve taken during the week and surprisingly it will be every Friday! (bet you didn’t guess that!)
To start things off in fine form I’m breaking the rules right off the bat and posting a photo that wasn’t taken this week at all. It was taken just before my broken ankle and when I first thought about doing this. But I’m sure you’ll forgive me just this once… next ones will be weekly fresh I promise! There’s some people out there doing the every day 365 challenge for both photo and some design , the great cool stuff by Mark Weaver and of course one of my favourites, the daily monster.
But I’m going for something a little bit more casual and realistic with busy work, family life and possibly may mean quality over quantity, but no guarantees in that department.
ONE MILLION! That’s how many!!…or a least will be if the submissions keep rolling in as they have been over at One Million Giraffes.
The Giraffe above was one of my submissions to this project and was stoked to find out it made Giraffe of the day! There’s another of my other giraffes I sent can be seen here.
In an effort to prove his friend wrong, Ola is on a mission to collect this massive number of high rise leaf munchers. The project on seems fairly simple until you start thinking about the reality, I’m sure you can imagine it is also a very LARGE (or should that be long…) one. A million anythings is a challenge to collect, let alone organise, count, filter and display them in all their long necked glory.
With only two rules to follow it’s real easy for everyone to get involved:
- You have to tell your friends about this project (otherwise it won’t work)
- Your giraffe(s) can be created in any way and form, but not on a computer (hands are good!)
If you’re reading this then find the time to go grab a pencil, stick, rock and scribble an extra tree top nibbler or two and send them in!
